outrageously caffeinated weblog
Updated 6 March 2006 Official announceroK Page! GO HERE INSTEAD THE REST OF THIS POST IS OLD.
My new computer is now fully working. FreeBSD 6.0 and KDE 3.4 (3.5 wasn’t in ports, cry!). With that all done, I can use amaroK finally, and immediately set to work on an XChat perl script for it.
announceroK = announce + amaroK. Get it?! It’s very simple, I plan to put some XChat-based controls into it later.
While reading /. this story caught my eye. NetBSD running on a toaster. Proof! :)
I el oh el’d so hard. The script for toasting the toast is /usr/local/bin/toast. Ha.

Max has contributed so much it is now a collaboration! Hoorah!
This is my first ever program/script/whatever you want to call it. I learned very (very.) basic C and PHP from Lance. A literal one hour crash-course. Since I’ve looked at Perl for long enough (about 2 years?) I began to understand it, so I sat down and wrote this. Expect bugs, I’m brand new at this stuff.
I am not a programmer in any way, shape, or form. Ha. So I am allowed to have bugs! Anyway.
It displays system information, one at a time. Unlike most X-Chat system information scripts that show everything in one giant string of text, this one gives you the option to show JUST your CPU info, JUST hardrives, JUST operating system, and so on. In otherwords: It doesn’t OMG SPAM the IRC channel with a massive script.
It was built on and primarily for FreeBSD, but I’m pretty sure it’ll work on Linux systems as well. Sorry Windows users. OS X, you might be lucky. Give it a shot and let me know.
