announceroK: amaroK Script for XChat

Updated 6 March 2006 Official announceroK Page! GO HERE INSTEAD THE REST OF THIS POST IS OLD.

My new computer is now fully working. FreeBSD 6.0 and KDE 3.4 (3.5 wasn’t in ports, cry!). With that all done, I can use amaroK finally, and immediately set to work on an XChat perl script for it.

announceroK = announce + amaroK. Get it?! It’s very simple, I plan to put some XChat-based controls into it later.

Excellent plugin. One thing though, it takes a lot longer than any other plugin to work. Other than that, it’s great X-D.

    Thanks. :)

About it being slow: I don’t know how other plugins do it, so I used DCOP which is usually slow to begin with and it was easier for me to understand (I’m new at this still). The speed is something I really want to improve though.

Well, have you thought about “modifying/adopting” other plugins, like rhythmbox’s rb plugin? http://rapidshare.de/files/11845189/xchatrb.py.html

I looked at the script you linked, and I went looking for a way to make that work with amarok (without having to use dcop).

Couldn’t find any, but I think I found a way to at least cut back on the speed issues after checking out some other amarok scripts. :)

I modded the script slightly to eliminate the conflict with xchat-xsys (/np command) and added a bit of code to allow xchat to properly handle the dcop requests (eliminates the server unknown command errors on freenode). If you’d like a copy, drop me an email with the address you want me to send it to. :)
